Program Offerings:
Graduates from a K-12 education program have a general training in education
in four key areas. These include early childhood development, elementary school,
middle school and ending with high school. Graduates are qualified to teach those
grade levels, although many states and local districts will require additional
certification for specific subject areas or focused areas of teaching such as
English as a second language, gifted and talented, or special education.

Job Highlights for K-12 Teaching Degrees
.Public school teachers must be licensed, which typically requires a bachelor’s degree and completion of an approved teacher education program.
Many States offer alternative licensing programs to attract people into teaching, especially for hard-to-fill positions.
Job prospects should be favorable; opportunities will vary by geographic area and subject taught.
A Career in Educational Administration
Courses in K-12 education programs include assessment of students, evaluation of effective teaching practices, research methods, curriculum assessment, teaching methodologies and a strong background in developmental issues and learning strategies. Graduates will learn how to teach the various subject including mathematics, social sciences, life sciences, English, reading and technology. Additional courses also include information on physical education, legal and ethical issues, working with parents and developing leadership and classroom management strategies.
Students will get opportunities to become efficient communicators, learn new and original techniques, strategies and to hear the pertinent educational and lawful issues regarding specific regions and positions. Teachers will create lesson plans, teaching strategies and pragmatic applications of the data through course assignments and projects. Students graduating from the program may also work as special consultants or resource teachers within a school or school territory, depending on their degree of specialization and preceding knowledge or experience.
Employment of , kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers is projected to grow about as fast as average. Job prospects are expected to be favorable, with particularly good prospects for teachers in high-demand fields like math, science, and bilingual education, or in less desirable urban or rural school districts.
Job opportunities
for teachers over the next 10 years will vary fromgood to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level, and subject taught. Most job openings will result from the need to replace the large number of teachers who are expected to retire over the 2006-16 period. Also, many beginning teachers decide to leave teaching for other careers after a year or two—especially those employed in poor, urban schools—creating additional job openings for teachers.
