Online Classes Help Accident Victim Realize Dream

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

A newspaper article caught my eye today about 45-year old Dawn Stewart, who utilized the flexibility of online classes to complete her college degree after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident. She is a remarkably determined woman who endured a number of physical hardships, yet graduated from Butler Community College in Pennsylvania at the top of her class last week, according to the Leader Times.

She married after high school, had a baby, and was working full-time when she realized that she wanted to further her education. After encouragement from her husband and her employer, she enrolled at the local junior college and was on the way to fulfilling her dream of earning a college degree. During recuperation from the accident, she admired the work of the physical therapists and decided to become a physical therapy assistant. She now has the academic credentials to work in her chosen career.

Sometimes, it takes a little nudging; but taking the first step is crucial to realizing any dream. Most of us face stumbling blocks; but with technological innovations, like online degree programs, the impossible is now possible.

Dawn Stewart has a college degree; now it is your turn.

Moms Juggle Family and Online Degree

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Moms are natural jugglers; and Mother’s Day honors remarkable women who juggle innumerable tasks every day. These moms are motivated by love and devotion to their families. They sacrificially set aside their own dreams while raising children, including the dream of completing a college education. But thankfully, online degrees make it easier for moms to realize their dream, even in the midst of a busy family life.

Moms who desire to attend college should consider the following:

  • Moms can earn an online degree while their children are in school. During the 13 years between kindergarten and 12th grade, a mom can slowly accumulate enough credits through online classes to graduate from college by the time her first child graduates from high school.
  • A college degree does not have to be costly. A mom can begin her online degree program by taking advantage of inexpensive online classes at the local junior college. Most junior colleges provide online applications and instructions.
  • A mom can delay choosing a career path while taking classes. While completing general education courses like English, history, and speech, a college major can be considered. There is no rush for those who are undecided.
  • It is easy for a mom to begin slowly. There is no need to enroll in more than one online class at a time unless federal financial aid requirements specify otherwise.
  • Moms who need education assistance may receive online help. Most accredited online degree programs offer generous counseling support to online students.
  • A computer with Internet access is easy to find. Those moms who do not have access to a computer at home or on the job can usually reserve computer use at the public library for free; or an inexpensive computer can be purchased on sale.

The years of raising children pass quickly; and there is wonderful satisfaction throughout the journey. And for some moms, attaining a college degree at the same time offers the realization of a lifelong dream.

Five Reasons to Choose an Online Degree

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Online degree programs are the next-generation, cutting-edge, tech-savvy way to go for millions of people who are seeking an efficient, economical and convenient way to acquire a college education.

And though it is easy to pick a hundred reasons to choose online education, here are just five of them.

1) “Shhh. Keep it hush-hush.”
Prepare privately for a new career or advancement in the same field while working full-time. Although the boss may be supportive of your plans, it is often wiser to keep career aspirations to yourself until ready to spread your wings or fly the coop.

2) “OK kids – grab your beach gear and head to the car!”
Spend more quality time with family and friends. Arrange a study schedule that peacefully co-exists with opportunities to build and maintain relationships with loved ones.

3) “Isn’t the Eiffel Tower beautiful at night?”
Travel or relocate while studying and completing assignments. Major cities are filled with Internet cafes, hotel Internet connections, and Wi-Fi hotspots.

4) “So, you got it? Take the #11 bus to the #29 bus to the southbound train. Exit the train at Long Street and catch a taxi to the university. Takes about 3 hours.”
Avoid a long distance commute to the nearest college campus.

5) “Sorry I missed my final. But the baby had a fever, my toddler is getting over the chicken pox, and the first-grader was home because of a teachers’ work day.”
Enjoy the flexibility of online classes while raising children.

With the advantages of online degree programs, no one needs to give up the dream of a earning a college degree. So grab your computer and go for it!
