If you want a career full of possibilities that carries great responsibility, a pharmacy career might be the right choice. The pharmacy programs at Vatterott College can equip you with the skills needed to assist a pharmacist on a daily basis. You can choose to earn either a diploma or degree depending on the knowledge level you desire.
Both the diploma and degree programs start by building the same foundation. You will first develop familiarity with medical terms. You will learn about the use of drugs, their affects and classifications, pharmacy laws, safety concerns, and quality control. You can develop skills with pharmaceutical math so that you can perform common calculations and measurements.
The programs will teach you about computer hardware and software that is specific to the pharmacy industry. You can gain working knowledge of this technology by practicing entering patient data, medication information, drug interactions, and more. You will also learn how to prevent medication errors and control quality.
The degree program can help you develop skills in insurance billing, and diagnostic and procedural coding. You will also look at computerized billing processes. You can become familiar with the different requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation, and personal and commercial insurance. You will finish off with a 10-week externship where you can apply the skills that you learn in the classroom. Upon completion of the degree, you can become a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Regardless of whether you choose the diploma or degree, you will be working towards a pharmacy career that you will love! |
