Alcohol Drug Abuse Counselor - Omaha

Does it break your heart when you see people who have their lives torn apart due to drug and alcohol abuse? Do you wish there was something you could do to help people overcome these tragic addictions? You can make a difference that could save lives once you complete the Licensed Alcohol Drug Abuse Counselor program at Vatterott College. This program can prepare you to become an Alcohol and/or Drug Abuse Counselor in the mental health field.

You will start out by learning medical, psychological, and psychiatric terminology. You will explore the legal and ethical dilemmas within the mental health and psychiatric fields. You will learn about the various medication and treatment programs used in conjunction with counseling procedures.

You will take a detailed look at behavioral science, including coping mechanisms used for stress, death, and pregnancy. You can become familiar with schizophrenia, anxiety, and other personality and mood disorders. The program can also familiarize you with individual and group counseling techniques. The final portion of your learning includes a 320-hour externship where you will actually experience the world of alcohol and drug abuse counseling.

Completing this program will grant you provisional licensure as a CPADAC in Nebraska. You will need to obtain client contact hours to gain full licensure. You are about to begin a career journey that is completely fulfilling and full of compassion and understanding.

Program offered is an Associate Degree.
