As a result of pharmacists taking a more active role in drug therapy and the counseling of their patients, the pharmacy assistant is becoming an increasingly essential position. You will learn basic medical terminology and pharmacology, dispensing (community and hospital), inventory, billing, bookkeeping and administration, as well as customer service skills. You will be trained to prepare and administer basic medical office tests, learn to assess and prioritize patient appointment requests and respond to patients' basic questions about their medical condition and prescriptions. In addition, you will learn general office procedures and administration including the use of a medical billing software package. You will also receive First Aid and CPR training and certification.
Upon graduation, you are prepared to begin a career as an Admitting Clerk, Emergency Room Admitting Clerk, Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Clinical Assistant, Medical Receptionist, Medical Billing Clerk, Pharmacy Assistant Technician or Medical Office Assistant. |
