Patients depend on pharmacy technicians to deliver accurate information about their medical conditions and prescription medication. There is a high demand for pharmacy technicians due to the enhanced role they play in dispensing medications and educating patients. The Vancouver Career College Medical Pharmacy Assistant program will prepare you to become a key player in the health care industry. This program provides all the current industry standard training needed to enter the medical and pharmacological field. The first phase of this program focuses on medical office procedures. During this time, students will study medical terminology and learn how to prepare and administer basic medical office tests and answer the preliminary questions of patients. Additional curriculum focuses on bookkeeping, administration, inventory and billing procedures, as well as customer service skills and prioritizing appointment requests. The curriculum in the second phase trains students to support pharmacy technicians in a health care environment. Key courses include pharmacy math, prescription transcription, pharmacy billing, and responsibilities and protocols of a hospital or community pharmacy technician. A five-week practicum follows each half of this program, for a total of 10 weeks working in the field. This valuable work experience will prepare you for a career as an admitting clerk, medical transcriptionist, pharmacy technician, medical office assistant or other relevant position. Upon completion of the program, you will receive a Medical Office Assistant Diploma, a Medical Pharmacy Assistant Diploma, Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR “C” Certificate.
