Homeland Security
The emphasis area in Homeland Security in the Master of Public Administration degree program has been developed in response to a perceived need to enhance the preparedness and response capability of our nation post-9/11. Since 2001, there has been assessment of federal, state, and local agencies that are tasked with preparing for and responding to a wide range of natural and man-made disasters and civil emergencies.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has embarked on numerous initiatives intended to increase both preparedness and response capability. This area of emphasis has been developed to support FEMA and is designed to enhance the capability of managers and executives involved with Homeland Security efforts in the local, state, and federal agencies.
The Upper Iowa University online Master of Public Administration (MPA), with an emphasis in Homeland Security, provides learners with the current theories, concepts, and learning models necessary to assume leadership roles in their respective organizations as well as provide learners with specialized knowledge of the issues and challenges in prepare learners with a specialized knowledge of the threats posed by both domestic and international acts of terrorism and strategies for countering such threats.
Learners will complete a research project involving a substantive issue relevant to global business and of interest to the learner. Learners will use this project to demonstrate competency and mastery of the various fields of study covered in the program.
