The
Master of Science in accounting and financial
management (MSAF) degree innovatively combines
graduate studies in accounting and financial management
for students who want to pursue workplace opportunities
available to professionals possessing specialized
knowledge and skills in both disciplines. The
curriculum is designed to prepare students from
the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors
to become managers and technical practitioners
with the vision, knowledge, and skills necessary
to lead organizations. The program offers students
currently working in accounting and financial
management positions a course of study that will
improve their knowledge and qualifications and
enable them to pursue top management roles in
the CFO/Controller organization. The MSAF also
offers students who are not currently in accounting
and financial management, but who have some prior
coursework in business, the opportunity to transition
into the CFO/Controller field with strong academic
credentials. The MSAF degree provides students
with a thorough understanding of the financial
reporting process, how financial reporting affects
financial markets, and how financial information
can be used and analyzed to make better informed
investment and management decisions. The coursework
blends solid accounting and financial management
concepts, principles, and theories with applications
relevant to today's corporate world, helping graduates
become financial managers capable of navigating
a changing global business environment characterized
by rapid technological changes, intense competition,
and workforce diversity. In addition to enabling
graduates to pursue management and leadership
positions of increasing responsibility within
the CFO/Controller organization, the MSAF may
satisfy the educational requirements for candidacy
for the Certified Public Accountant examination.
