Program offered is a Certificate.
Teacher Certification through the Wescoe School leads to eligibility to teach in elementary, middle, or high schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Wescoe School teacher certification program is aligned with that provided by the traditional day program at Muhlenberg. This program, ranked in the top-tier of certifying institutions in Pennsylvania, certifies teachers for both elementary and secondary areas. The education courses are all available at night; however, the candidate would need to have daytime availability for fieldwork (2-3 hours per week) and student teaching (full-time for 15 weeks).
In order to become certified, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires an overall GPA of 3.0 and passing scores on the PRAXIS exams. In addition, the Education Department at Muhlenberg requires a 2.75 GPA in Education courses, and a 2.5 GPA in the major; however, foreign language certification requires a 3.0 GPA in the major. If a candidate has not yet reached this requirement, The Wescoe School will evaluate your transcript and indicate the number of courses needed to reach this level.
