The primary objective of the Professional Counseling Master of Arts degree program at South University is to provide you with the comprehensive academic preparation to pursue professional counselor opportunities upon your graduation, subject to applicable state licensure requirements.

As a student in the two-year master's degree program in Professional Counseling, you are taught using two primary modes of instruction:

  • The majority of the program involves didactic and experiential classroom instruction, supplemented by computer-based assignments using Internet technology.
  • The second mode of instruction focuses on supervised field experiences. Students are placed in actual community counseling settings and practice counseling under the auspices of an on-site supervisor. Students in field placements also receive weekly individual and group supervision from qualified faculty supervisors.
