Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician program at Schiller provides students with the knowledge and technical skills required to pursue entry-level positions in the pharmaceutical field. A Pharmacy Technician Associate degree can open the door to a new career path full of opportunity.

The Pharmacy Technician program concentrates on helping students acquire knowledge and develop skills that enable graduates to:

  • Fill prescriptions
  • Assist customers
  • Order medications
  • Support the pharmacist
  • And much more

The Pharmacy Technician training will also focus on reviewing patient drug allergies, dosing of medications, potential interactions and incompatibilities. A trained Pharmacy Technician can prepare IVs, compounded medications and unit-dose medications. Entry-level Pharmacy Technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and a supervising technician. Pharmacy settings in which a graduate may work include retail, hospital, mail order, long-term care, and compounding pharmacies.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Science degree.

The Pharmacy Technician program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the following outcomes:

  • Understand drugs and their uses
  • Exhibit proficiency in the dispensing and calculation of medication
  • Utilize professional, ethical and legal standards in customer service in healthcare
  • Integrate knowledge from pharmaceutical sciences as a basis for client education
  • Exemplify professional behaviors as defined by the discipline of allied health

This program is designed to prepare graduates to pursue entry-level employment in the field or jobs in related fields, the specific job titles of which may not be represented in the program title.
