The Medical Assistant program provides students with the knowledge and technical skills required to pursue entry-level positions in the medical field. This program will allow students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform clinical, laboratory and medical office procedures. The Medical Assistant program provides a broad education that prepares students to develop advanced technical and communication skills.

Job responsibilities for graduates include:

• Performing routine laboratory tests
• Assisting the doctor in patient preparation, examination and other patient relations
• Displaying professionalism on the job
• Using excellent communication skills to inform and instruct patients

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Science degree.

The Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the following outcomes:

• Demonstrate competencies in all aspects of medical assisting clinical practice.
• Exhibit proficiency in the clerical and administrative functions requires of a medical assistant.
• Utilize professional, ethical and legal standards in healthcare practice.
• Integrate knowledge from behavioral and biological sciences as a basis for allied health practices.
• Exemplify professional behaviors as defined by the discipline of allied health.

This program is designed to prepare graduates to pursue entry-level employment in the field or jobs in related fields, the specific job titles of which may not be represented in the program title.
