Medical Assisting - Columbus

Program offered is a Diploma.

Medical assisting practitioners serve as members of the health care delivery team performing administrative and clinical procedures. Administrative duties may include scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, handling telephone calls and writing correspondence, and managing finances. Clinical duties may include asepsis and infection control, patient histories and vital signs, first aid and CPR, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests, and administering medications as directed by the physician and as permitted by state law.

The medical assisting program prepares students for entry-level positions in the field. The objective is to develop in them the intellectual and professional qualities desired in effective medical assistants by providing a strong theoretical foundation and by developing the ability to perform clinical and office procedures. This program provides an educational opportunity for students hoping to pursue a career in healthcare as multi-skilled practitioners in a physician's office or other healthcare setting and is not a preparation for other healthcare professions including nursing.
