History

Salem University, originally established as Salem College, received its charter from the State of West Virginia in December 1888 and offered its first term of instruction beginning in April 1889. It was founded by members of the local community and the Seventh Day Baptist Church.

Throughout the years, Salem University has adhered to high standards of excellence, developing an academic program that gives our graduates the skills and tools needed to begin successful, fulfilling careers. Salem University Online continues that tradition of excellence through an accelerated online program.
