Associate - Construction Management

Contruction Management

The construction management courses offered at Redstone College cover a wide variety of subjects that pertain to current workplace trends. Students in the Construction Management Program receive training in three main areas: construction science, construction management, and business. Construction management professionals need leadership and organizational skills along with a good knowledge of construction. Students gain these important credentials and learn to apply them in a career setting.

Redstone's construction management courses cover topics like construction safety, computer-aided design for construction, and construction accounting. The Construction Management Program is career-focused, so students get the practice they need to enter the workforce.

Upon successful completion of the Construction Management Program, students should be able to:

  • Describe commonly used construction materials and methods and testing procedures for materials listed in the Construction Specification Institute's MasterFormat.
  • Explain typical roles, responsibilities, and organizational structures associated with construction projects.
  • Present an overview of key developments in the history of construction, including the changing role of environmental considerations in construction.
  • Communicate professionally with construction project team members using correct construction terminology.

Along with a traditional classroom setting, students will have "lab" time where they receive hands-on construction management training in areas like estimating, project management, and planning. Students study the basic foundation of construction concepts that are fundamental to residential and commercial structures, such as building materials and construction methods.

Students also learn general business skills that are needed to operate effectively in a construction management environment and the skills that support the administration of projects, including tracking construction schedules, monitoring activities on a construction site, and developing quantity surveys.
