The pedagogy of language acquisition is of extreme importance in today's classrooms and businesses. Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD) - English as a Second Language (ESL)/English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) specialization provides the knowledge base to build successful programs to enhance the learning of the English language, to assess skills of diverse students and to design instruction with bilingual materials. Research and current analysis of ESL and ESOL theory provides the basis for the assessment and design process. (Note: Learners seeking ESL/ESOL certification should verify with appropriate state officials that this specialization meets applicable certification requirements.)
RequirementsLearners working toward the online doctoral degree in education complete 51 semester credits (this includes the 24 credits of research, the comprehensive course and the dissertation) with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 (B) or higher.
