Students will gain a thorough knowledge of the principles of patient preparation and care, surgical preparation and procedures, operative technique, use of surgical instruments and equipment, and principles of asepsis (sterilization).
Upon graduation, students will have learned to apply knowledge appropriately, received extensive clinical experience in "scrubbing" and "circulating," and will be prepared to assume the full range of responsibilities associated with the profession.
Program Core Courses - What You'll StudySurgical Technologists assist in surgical operations as a member of an operating room team under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other medical personnel. As a surgical technologist, you can expect to be involved in all stages of the surgical process, including operating room preparation, patient transport and preparation, assisting during the surgery itself, and cleaning of the operating room after the surgery.
