Surgical Technology
The vocational objective of the Surgical Technology Program is to prepare graduates to work as a Surgical Technologist in an operating room with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical team members. Surgical Technologists maintain asepsis in the operating room, pass instruments and sterile items and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure, maintain the sterile field, and prepare instruments, supplies and equipment before and after an operation. Graduates may be eligible for positions as Scrub Surgical Technologist, Circulating Surgical Technologist, or Second Assisting Technologist. Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited programs are eligible to sit for the national certification exam in Surgical Technology to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
