The Legal Office Technology program provides training for an entry-level career in legal office support in computerized offices. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with currently popular software programs as well as legal and business applications and develops traits employers seek such as the ability to assume responsibility, make decisions, and work independently. Graduates may pursue career opportunities in business, industry, or government as legal administrative assistants, legal or executive secretaries, and law office managers.

Occupational Objectives

The program stresses practical and specific office skills designed to meet the employment and personnel training needs of attorneys, corporations, legal clinics, courts, legislative offices, government agencies, law firms, and the legal departments of banks, insurance companies, and various business organizations. Students develop competencies in basic office technology techniques, acquire research and writing skills, and learn to prepare various legal documents. In addition, students gain a general understanding of procedural law and the ethical and professional responsibilities of a legal administrative assistant.
