A 1350-hour training program divided into 740 hours of classroom instruction in Medical Assisting. 432 hours of classroom training in Basic X-ray Machine Operating, and 178 hours of clinical externship. The graduate will be prepared to assist the physician and function as a health professional in a variety of healthcare settings in both administrative and clinical capacities. The student is taught a wide variety of clinical and office skills expected of them by employers, including but not limited to phlebotomy, EKG, anatomy, pharmacology, physiology, assisting with surgical procedures and radiology, the effects of radiation, identifying radiograph equipment, positioning and procedures. Office procedures will include: medical administrative procedures. The program must be completed in 55 weeks.
After successful completion of the classroom instruction students will be required to attend the externships phase of the training to complete "Clinicals." This will be an opportunity for the student to gain "hands-on-experience" by practicing in an actual medical facility with actual patients. The externship will be conducted during daytime hours. Some limited weekend hours may be available. 178 hours of externship training must be completed. Students are required to attend externship clinicals each week.
