An Associates Degree in Human Services prepares students for professional careers in areas including social service agencies, human resource departments and community organizations. The Human Services program at Iowa Central College prepare students by giving them knowledge and basic skills to work in the human services industry. Programs combine academic instruction in the foundations of human services, such as social work, counseling, and psychology, with the management skills of organizing, planning, leading, assessing, and evaluating. A study in Human Services prepares students for careers in management in this growing field, and is designed to be an applied degree that includes teaching students techniques and strategies of intervention and good management practices. Upon completion of studies, students should be prepared to make interventions at individual, group, family, organizational, and community levels, as well as the ability to use solid management practices in a variety of human services settings. Areas of specialization can address critical social challenges from a humanitarian perspective.
