Online Degrees in Holistic Therapy

Degrees in Holistic Therapy: Holistic Therapy is a unique area of healing that allows you to draw upon traditional, folk, and naturalistic remedies to help clients overcome their health issues. The philosophy behind Holistic Therapy shuns the invasive nature of modern pharmaceutical treatments and the often dangerous side effects that they can cause. Holistic Therapy can be combined with psychological knowledge in order to help counsel clients, or it can be predominantly focused on their health, nutrition, and lifestyle habits. Changing these habits through therapy and applying other modalities can make a difference in a patient's life.

Degrees in Holistic Therapy have been offered online for a long time -- since long before the online learning option was considered "mainstream." As a result, you can find many programs that have been in operation for a rather long time. When choosing between these programs, it is critical to know what kinds of skills you want to learn. Holistic Therapy can involve knowledge from a wide variety of traditions, including ancient Chinese practices such as acupuncture and a wide range of others. As a result, each program and each student experience will be very different. It is important to compare a number of programs that might suit you.

Holistic Therapy Degree Levels Available Online

  • Undergraduate/Graduate Certificate: 1 year to complete

  • Associate Degree: 2 years to complete

  • Bachelor's Degree: 4 years to complete

  • Master's Degree: 1-3 years to complete

  • Doctorate Degree: 4-6 years to complete

An undergraduate certificate is the most common way to begin your journey in the world of Holistic Therapy. An undergraduate certificate typically only takes about a year to complete and will focus in on the skills that you need to perform as a healer in Holistic Therapy. There will not be very many general classes in other subjects, if any at all, so you will be able to finish your new credential relatively quickly. There are few graduate certificates in Holistic Therapy, but some are offered to those who already have a degree in the field and want to specialize further.

An associate's degree is typically used for Holistic Therapy majors who want to get all of the knowledge they need to begin working in the field, but who are also interested in a more general education. An associate's degree in any field will typically require you to take courses in English, math, and a few other "core" subjects in the humanities, arts, or social sciences. At the same time, an associate's degree can prepare you to advance your education further by helping you to complete a longer bachelor's degree much more quickly.

A bachelor's degree in Holistic Therapy is offered only by specialized institutions that focus on Holistic Therapy and related healing disciplines. The bachelor's degree provides a larger core of Holistic Therapy classes and can allow you to specialize in various areas of the field. However, it also requires you to complete more classes in other subject matter. Generally speaking, employers will look more kindly upon a bachelor's degree than an associate's or certificate program because it shows that you are able to "stick to" a goal and demonstrate competence in a wider range of fields. However, it may not be right for all Holistic Therapy practitioners.

There are very few graduate degrees, such as doctorates or master's degrees, available in the field of Holistic Therapy. These degrees are usually offered by institutions that have a very long history of offering Holistic Therapy as a course of study. However, they do not necessarily take as long, nor have the same requirements, as graduate degrees in other fields, because they focus on practice and application rather than on research and theory. The precise nature of a program, however, will vary greatly according to the school.

Admission Requirements

In Holistic Therapy and other disciplines, you should be ready to submit copies of the following documents to every institution that you consider:

  • High School Diploma

  • High School Transcript

  • SAT/ACT Scores

  • Letters of Recommendation

  • Personal Statements/Essays

SAT and ACT scores are not required by all programs in Holistic Therapy. However, personal statements tend to be valued more highly in these programs than in many other programs. Make sure that your personal statement conforms to the instructions offered by the program and offers good insight into your goals and expectations for Holistic Therapy.

Online Holistic Therapy vs. Traditional College Programs

Online Holistic Therapy programs tend to take their cues from traditional college programs, so that you do not need to feel that you are "missing out" on something by not taking a traditional program. On the contrary, most of the institutions that offer Holistic Therapy online have been providing their programs in the "face to face" format for many years before making the move to the online form. As a result, you'll cover the same information in your classes and usually have the same other students in classes throughout your program.

Tuition and Accreditation

Accreditation is not usually looked upon as a defining element of Holistic Therapy. Instead, consider the length of time that the program has been offered and the material that it covers. Remember, however, that if you wish to go on to a more advanced academic degree, your university should be accredited by a recognized regional or distance learning authority.

Tuition in Holistic Therapy is comparable to the tuition costs in other alternative healing programs and can range from about $2,000 per year to about $8,000 per year.

Choosing the Best Holistic Therapy Degree

The best Holistic Therapy degree is one that helps you chart a path to practice as Holistic Therapy healer as soon as you have graduated. To make this possible, many institutions will offer classes in the business aspects of operating a Holistic Therapy clinic. Others may offer assistance with finding and applying to a local clinic. Make sure any program you apply to offers the mix of skills that appeal to you.
