Online Forensic Accounting is a sub-specialty of auditing, focuses primarily upon the investigation of financial transactions for the purpose of substantiating or disproving their validity. Forensic accountants are specialists in ferreting out financial fraud - including embezzlement, insurance or construction fraud, money-laundering schemes, and other illegal activity. They often work with law enforcement and court officials in compiling and providing financial evidence of wrongdoing; and they may also testify, under oath, as expert witnesses. Although these accounting professionals were once relegated to government agencies and insurance companies, they are now prominent fixtures in corporate and small business settings. An increasingly litigious society has firmly planted forensic accountants into the corporate environment. Also, television's portrayal of anything 'forensic' as glamorous has increased interest in this math-oriented, analytical, investigative career field.
