The world of special education has become a broad and varied world with many opportunities for those who wish to work with special needs children. There are a variety of special education jobs in the field. Special education involves programs that are put in place to help children who need particular accommodations and support in order to learn in a classroom setting. Special education meets whatever needs a child might have, from visual or hearing accommodations to movement assistance and materials modifications. It is a broad and varied field, especially in this day and age.

It is not necessarily that there are more special needs children in the world these days as it is that the qualification systems for children with special needs in the school system has evolved. Children with a wide range of disabilities now qualify for special education within the school systems. Special needs in the areas of hearing, speech, vision, physical disabilities and the like can all be addressed and accommodated in the classroom settings. Individual needs are taken into consideration and an appropriate level of support and accommodation is derived and put into place. The goal is to support the special needs child as needed to ensure a suitable learning environment that will result in success.

There are a wide variety of special education jobs in the field if the school system is to be able to meet the need on all levels. Special education jobs include positions such as:

·    Special education teachers- those teachers who have focused on learning about a variety of special needs and how to approach them from an educational standpoint. These teachers use various methods and accommodations in order to teach children with special needs or disabilities. Special education teachers fill a huge role in that the child's educational success often rests within their hands. These teachers work together with parents, other teachers, therapists and administration members in order to design an Individual Education Program (IEP) for each student. The IEP sets goals for the student and mentions methods and accommodations by which those goals can be reached.

·    Aides- all special education teachers value their classroom or individual student's special education aides. These are the teacher's extra hands, eyes and ears in the classroom. If the aide is a classroom aide, he or she will perform a variety of duties that will help the children and the teacher. If the aide is slated to help an individual child, the specific duties are to what that child needs to function and learn in the classroom.

·    Special education coordinators- these are the people in the administrative positions who oversee the special education program as a whole, working to ensure all the avenues and accommodations are provided for in each and every individual case.

Special education jobs are positions that are best suited for people who have a lot of compassion and a desire to help those who face challenges and struggles in learning. With the right level of support and accommodation, many special education students thrive in school and go on to live fulfilling lives.
