Obedience Training Dog Obedience Training

Schools are offering online courses in many different areas. One area many may not think of right off hand is dog obedience training. If you are animal lover and think you would enjoy working with pets and teaching them obedience training, then the online option can offer you a flexible online learning format to earn your diploma. Online courses are not only flexible, but also short in duration as most online courses for dog training take only 18 months to complete. So, if you are looking for convenience and a quick method of receiving your diploma, online may be the best option for you.

The curriculum to learn dog obedience training teaches the student the basics in obedience training such as how a dog thinks, learns, behaves and how to train a dog to do what is asked or told. Some of the skills gained include dealing with behavioral problems, basic veterinary issues, teaching competition obedience as well as house, crate and hunting training. The student also learns about dog behavior and its use of senses and communication. Included are lessons on how to influence behavior using conditioning and reinforcement and methods of getting and keeping a dog's attention.

Other aspects of the curriculum may vary. Some dog obedience training diplomas offer other studies a well. The more in-depth courses offer classes such as basic and advanced behavior, canine learning, study of shelter animals, canine aggression and safety, obedience principles, basic anatomy, injury and disease studies, training owners and the basics of business. Since you are not required to have a diploma to offer your services in obedience training, the competition is tight. However, a trainer that has the right credentials and experience can make more money than a trainer who does not.

To be a successful at dog obedience training, you do need some type of hands on experience with untrained dogs or dogs with behavioral problems because problem solving is an important aspect of obedience training, so actual experience is vital. Since you do not receive any actual hands-on experience when taking online courses, you can find other ways to get some important practice with a live animal. You can practice training your own dog or ask a friend to allow you work with their pet to get a feel of what training entails. This will also give you a better understanding of what type of work you will be doing and whether you want to open your own business or work with other training businesses.

Salaries for people who offer dog obedience training can be low, but if you have your own business you can set an hourly price on the obedience training you offer. Those who work for retail pet stores or other training services generally make minimum wage or slightly above, so it is important to get the right training that allows you to open your own business and set your own price if you want to do this full time. If you are looking for part-time work, then the basic courses are fine.
