Nurse Entrepreneur

The nurse entrepreneur is a very particular career field. Also known as a consultant, this nurse is responsible for working on their own in a business that they have created or as an independent contractor. They provide specialized nursing services to their clients on a contract or hourly basis, depending on the client and their needs. The nurse consultant can work or practice in any and all areas of the healthcare industry, including private practices and hospital settings as well as other settings. There are so many different applications for this career and the exact specialty will vary from one consultant to the next.

Anyone considering a career as a nurse entrepreneur needs to be ambitious, hard-working, and self-motivated. Working for yourself is never an easy task and in this career it is especially demanding.  People who have a personal drive to succeed and determination to do their work are going to be best suited for this position. Other desirable skills include communication, self-confidence, ability to take risks, decision making skills, time management skills, business management skills, and the ability to be outspoken and be in charge at all times. This self-employed position is often desirable for nurses who want to set their own hours and work their own way instead of getting paid on the clock in a traditional hospital or private practice job. The benefits include things like flexible schedules, creative freedom, autonomy, and the ability to succeed as high as the individual likes.

Disadvantages that come with the nurse entrepreneur or consultant career include a lack of steady income, high level of financial responsibility, no benefits or bonuses, and isolation in the career due to a lack of co-workers to engage with. However, for someone who likes working independently and seeing new people all the time, this can be a great career choice. Nurse consultants can work all over the country and travel to take care of business if they'd like. That means that you can get to see more of the world while you work, too. There is a lot to consider in choosing this career, but it is all going to be a matter of whether the benefits and the job outweigh the lack of healthcare benefits and other traditional employee perks.

Nurse entrepreneur degrees do not have a set salary because every person is different. In this career, some like to say that the income is unstable. However, the income is also unlimited, which means that you can do more and earn as much as you want. The education requires a master's level education at the least, but a graduate degree will provide better opportunities and higher earnings.
