There are many different types of network technician degrees to choose from. Many people who are interested in becoming a network technician should first decide what length of time they have available to attend school, what type of network technician they would like to be and the quality of education they wish to receive. There are four main types of degree programs that are offered for network technicians to complete. These types of degrees include a diploma, a certification, an associate's degree and a bachelor's degree. Diploma

The diploma is the quickest of all the network technician degrees, as it only takes approximately 15 months to complete in most cases. This type of degree program helps students to have the ability to connect entire work stations together including printers, modems and other types of equipment within a network system. A network technician diploma program will help the student to be able to monitor the performance of a system as well as perform surveys that analyse the system's overall performance. This is a great program for a student who is looking beginning their career quickly in an entry level position.

Certificate

To become a certified network technician a student would need complete one of the network technician degrees that include a certification or just take a certified technician course load. There are many different areas that one can become specialized in. Some of these include Comp/TIA A+, CCNA, Cisco, Linux + and many others. Many students who complete their certification program go on to enjoy positions as a support technician for a computer network system, a systems support administrator or a technical support specialist. Sometimes there are prerequisites required prior to entering into a certification program. Typically these are about one year prior computer coursework completed.

Associate's Degree

A student who is looking for a more in depth study of network technician studies can look into obtaining an associate's degree. This is one of the most common network technician degrees completed by many network technicians. This type of degree is considered an occupational degree as it helps a student understand the basic knowledge for entering the network technician field well prepared. Many students who have completed their associate's degree as a network technician have gone on to enjoy reward careers as a network administrator or a technical field support specialist. There are many other career choices one can pursue with this type of degree.

Bachelor's Degree

Many network technician degrees major in computer science with a specialty in network technician. This provides an overall understand of the entire scope of computer science with a special focus on becoming a network technician. A bachelor's degree in computer science can be specialized in becoming a network technician. This type of degree allows for a broader range of career options, with a specialized focus on those positions in becoming a network technician. This degree program prepares the student with a great foundation.
