The fast growing field of medical administration is a great opportunity for new high school graduates as well as those already in the workforce looking for a career change.  These are exciting, stable jobs with great pay and benefits, and they are in an important industry that helps people.  A medical administrator degree can open the door to a number of possibilities including medical secretary, coding specialist, or medical records technician.  This is also the type of degree that can lead to one of the work at home jobs in medical billing that are coveted by many these days.

Medical coding specialists are those responsible for preparing information for filing with insurance companies.  Insurance companies assign claims by diagnosis, and each claim has to have the correct code in order to be filed correctly.  To be a medical coding specialist you must have extensive knowledge of medical terminology to get the coding correct.  A medical administrator degree program will train students in this type of terminology and other skills to ensure they have the background knowledge they need to learn to be a successful medical coding specialist.  It is much easier to train someone who has the basic knowledge needed on the job, and medical facilities recognize this.
