Engineering Technology Degree Salary - Highest Salaries in EngineeringRecently many studies have been done, that show that those with engineering technology degrees earn salaries that are among the highest in the country.  Because of this, more and more students are interested in seeking degrees in this area.  There are many specialties within the engineering technology field, such as aerospace, industrial, mechanical, petroleum, software, environmental, civil and other types of engineering.  This means there are many ways for a student to find an area of engineering that matches their skills and interests.

Engineers are involved in many of the ways that technology is changing the way we do things.  An engineer is generally the person who starts the process of creating something that will help to automate or change how something is done.  They are the ones who design, develop and test the electrical devices that are being used to make our lives easier today.  They will also be the ones who are responsible for the advancements that will be made in the future.  These advancements can use devices can range from small calculators to large computers and other devices.  Because technology is constantly changing and advancing, it is easy to see why those with engineering technology degrees earn high salaries.

For many with an engineering technology degree, their salary can vary depending on the type of field they choose to pursue.  Recent studies have shown that those who specialize in petroleum engineering earn the highest starting salary with a figure of $77,278.00.  Those who pursue chemical engineering come in with starting salaries at $64,889.00.   Mining and mineral engineers start at $63,207.00 and computer engineers start at $60,396.00.  These are averages but they do give one a good idea of which types of engineers are in the most demand.

Of course, no matter what field you decide to pursue, it is important that you go to a good school in order to obtain your engineering technology degree.  Salaries many times are based not only on one's education but also on where the education was obtained.  Many schools both traditional and online offer degrees in engineering with emphasis on various types of fields.  When one is deciding on a school, they should first be certain of their accreditations and then check into their reputation with others and with their alumni.  Sometimes doing a search through a search engine can provide much information in this regard.

Students should not decide to pursue an engineering technology degree based on salary alone.  Engineering students are required to be quite proficient in many subjects such as math, science, physics, engineering mechanics, electrical circuits and computer programming.  In addition, students in this field will also need characteristics such as drive, interpersonal skills, ambition, integrity and excellent communication skills.  For those who decide to pursue an engineering degree they should also realize that engineering, no matter what field one goes into, is constantly changing and due to this fact there will be a need for them to continue their education.  By doing this they will be able to stay abreast of the latest advancements and changes in their field and build upon the advancements as well.
