For many students who are looking into pursuing a degree in computer programming, there are a wide variety of classes they will find themselves in need of taking.  There are multiple courses in the area of programming languages and this can be a bit tough at first.  Learning how programming works and the different ways it can be done may feel like an insurmountable task when one first starts.  However, most courses of study will begin by teaching the easier of the programming languages first and then allowing the student to build up to the more difficult classes.  Generally one of the first languages that are taught is the easier programming languages such as Visual Basic and Visual Basic.Net.

Visual Basic is a Microsoft programming language. It is an event driven programming language and is an integrated development environment or IDE.  There are several versions of the programming language but the Microsoft brand is by far the most popular.   It has its base in the older programming language of BASIC.  One of the predominant ways that Visual Basic is different than BASIC is in that it has a graphical feature to the programming. It makes for a visual programming that allows for elements to be copied and pasted from Windows directly in to the application one is building.  This makes it easier to learn and easier to understand for those who are new to programming.  

Despite the ease of use that Virtual Basic is popular for, it still is a very sophisticated programming language that can be used to produce a wide variety of very complex programs.  This is one of the reasons that most schools will start a student with this programming language.  It is one of the easiest languages to learn yet it does so much.  From it one can learn much of the concepts of programming that carry on through to the more complicated programming languages.  This makes it easier on a student who is new to programming and programming languages as they can learn how writing computer programs is done before they move on to the harder languages.

Because Visual Basic is such a basic and easy to learn program, but it can do so much, there are many degree programs that will require one to take the class.  There are certificate degrees and undergraduate programs will require Visual Basic as one of the courses that needed to be taken prior to taking other classes.  It is one of the first classes that many students must take when working towards any type of degree in computer programming and many other degrees as well. There are also certificate programs that are available in Visual Basic or Visual Basic.NET as well.

Not only will taking the Visual Basic class help in satisfying current degree requirements but it will also help in the future. Students who are planning to go farther in their education in computer programming will find that learning Visual Basic at the beginning of their studies will help them in their future endeavors.
