Earning your degree from a distance is a lot of work. Before you decide to pursue any computer applications distance degrees, you need to be sure that distance learning is right for you. Distance learning usually takes place online. You will login to your course whenever you are ready and read and listen to lectures, do assigned work, turn in homework, and converse with your professor and fellow students, all in a virtual world. Although this sounds like an easy way to earn your degree, it can actually be a very intimidating and daunting task.

The best thing about computer applications distance degrees is the freedom it gives you to pursue your dream. On the other hand, this method of learning can take its toll on an unsuspecting student. Unlike a traditional college classroom, you do not have to show up at a designated place on a certain day of the week. You are responsible for you. No one is there looking over your shoulder or reminding you to do your work. This can lead to procrastination and, ultimately,  failure. To be a good distance learner, you must possess or develop certain personality traits. These traits consist of determination, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work alone without supervision or having to be prodded. In addition, you have to be able to communicate in a virtual reality without the benefit of the human connections and instant feedback you would get in an actual classroom setting.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for highly trained workers with computer skills is on the rise, so investigating computer applications distance degrees is worth your time.  If you are unable to go to a traditional college campus, many of those same colleges offer online degree programs. As long as you are persistent and determined to earn your degree, a distance program can enable you to do just that.
