Your largest employment opportunities will be with various private law firms. Private practices will continue to be the largest pool, but a growing array of other organizations – such as corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate and title insurance firms, and banks – hire paralegals. There has been a recent shift in the industry as larger corporations expand their in-house legal departments to cut costs. This, along with an expanding population increasingly requiring legal services, has driven the demand for paralegals higher. Areas of law that are expanding are intellectual property, healthcare, international law, elder issues, criminal law and environmental law.
