Medical Assistant
At Dover Business College, we offer programs that let you focus on what you need to succeed in the world of health care. Our Medical Assistant program will prepare you with the skills necessary to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners and clinics running smoothly. As a caring, dedicated member of a medical team, a Medical Assistant generally takes vital signs, prepares patients for and assists physicians during the examination, collects and prepares laboratory specimens or performs basic laboratory tests on the premises, schedules appointments, bills patients, fills out insurance forms, and much more.
Dover Business College's program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Only graduates of CAAHEP-accredited Medical Assistant programs are eligible to sit for the CMA exam. The Certified Medical Assistant designation (CMA) is a national credential awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants, indicating that the Medical Assistant meets certain standards of competence. In the State of New Jersey, Medical Assistants who hold the CMA credential are permitted to administer injections. We provide you classroom instruction on state-of-the-art equipment. The program emphasizes:
- Clinical procedures
- Medical office administration
- Medical terminology and coding
- Medical law and ethics.
As a graduate you will have a fully rounded understanding of administrative and clinical competencies that will help you perform successfully in physicians' offices, healthcare clinics, hospitals, inpatient and outpatient facilities, nursing homes, and offices of other healthcare practitioners, such as podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists.
