The Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Project Management is designed to provide you with the tools, techniques and skills needed to effectively manage projects. The curriculum covers in detail the nine knowledge areas specified by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), the industry standard for project management. In addition, the program integrates business foundation courses with the theory and the practice of project management in order to prepare well-equipped and skilled project managers.

Colorado Technical University is a recognized provider with the Project Management Institute (PMI®) Educational Provider Program (PMI R.E.P.). The university's Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management helps prepare students to take PMI's Project Management Professional® certification.

What skills can I learn?

Students who successfully complete the MBA with a concentration in Project Management should be able to:

  • Act in the role and function of management within various organizational structures.
  • Plan projects effectively and successfully, taking into consideration the quadruple constraints of time, cost, resources, and specifications.
  • Develop from the basic project plan a work-breakdown structure to the lowest granularity permitted by cost.
  • Analyze project costs and utilize optimal approaches to budgeting.
  • Determine and calculate project risks according to classical risk analysis.
  • Plan and manage contractual purchasing issues, including procurement and supply, outsourcing, and just-in-time delivery.
  • Apply the principles of negotiating, both competitive (0-sum) and win-win.
  • Present project objectives, requirements, scope, and budgeting effectively to upper management.
