In its modern form, project management is the art and practice of managing time-limited operations in terms of four constraints: time, cost, resources and specification. Intense global competition has intensified the importance of completing a project in the most effective and efficient manner, making project management the preferred management technique of many modern organizations.

Job candidates with the skills to identify priorities, organize assignments and deploy the resources to accomplish projects on time and on budget are in-demand. Project management has become one of the most sought-after skills in today's fast-paced, bottom-line-focused world.

CTU's Bachelor of Science in Project Management (BSPM) is based on the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)-the recognized industry standard. You can build a strong base of practical applications and undergraduate foundational studies in areas such as English, math, social science and technology. You also can learn real-world project planning; time and conflict management; human resource management; risk analysis and management; CPM/PERT, Gantt and other scheduling techniques; an understanding of organizations, teams and processes; budgeting and cost control systems; Microsoft Project®; and procurement, contracting and negotiating.

What skills can I learn?

Students who successfully complete the BSPM degree program should be able to:

• Define a project, project management, and types of project structures, project life cycle, knowledge areas, and processes.
• Organize and staff a project office with appropriate structure, personnel and processess.
• Explain cultural, legal, political, and financial issues associated with managing a project in domestic and international environments.
• Discuss how to align project goals with the corporate strategic planning process.
• Analyze project scope and identify project key tasks and stakeholders; manage scope changes.
• Align project tasks into a project schedule; determine task time, order of precedence and resources required.
• Construct and implement an approach for using contracting and procurement activities to fulfill project goals.
• Create and implement a proactive risk management and quality plan. Assess potential and actual risks. Develop contingency plans. Mitigate the effects of risks.

Project managers are in demand in all types of businesses and industries. The project management discipline has expanded from the traditional construction industry to a host of industries that include banking, pharmaceutical, wholesale food, financial services, medicine and information technology.
