Associate of Science in Medical Assisting
 

The Associate of Science in Medical Assisting (ASMA) degree program is designed to help prepare you to perform various technical and administrative skills as a member of a hetitleh care team in various settings. You can develop skills in phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, medication administration, minor surgical techniques, emergency medical procedures, and office procedures.

Successful completion of the ASMA degree program can give you an opportunity to sit for the national certification examination to become a Registered Medical Assistant.

What skills can I learn?

Students who successfully complete the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting degree program should be able to:

  • Practice within the role of the Medical Assistant in hetitleh care settings (e.g., acute care, long-term care, physician clinics, medical record departments).
  • Function effectively as a hetitleh care team member.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in communication skills, computer skills, scheduling and receiving patients and preparing or maintaining medical records.
  • Demonstrate accuracy in billing, coding and medical transcription.
  • Exhibit proficiency in assisting physicians with examinations, taking vital signs and performing diagnostic tests while using infection control procedures.
  • Appropriately utilize knowledge gained from foundational English, math and humanities courses.

What are some possible career opportunities?

Due to increasing need in the medical field, opportunities are available in all areas of hetitleh care, including family care, pediatrics, geriatrics, urgent care, home hetitleh care, and long-term care.

The Associate of Science in Medical Assisting degree program includes the following built-in Academic Certificate:

  • CPR Certification (American Heart Association Hetitleh Care Provider)

This CTU Academic Certificate can be earned without additional courses.
