Associate of Science in Electronics Technology

Program offered is an Associate Degree.

The Associate of Science in Electronics Technology (ASET) is designed to provide foundational skills for this exciting career field as well as a solid undergraduate education. The ASET degree program also comprises the first two years of either the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) degree programs.

Students must have a relatively strong math background in order to be successful in the ASET degree program.

What skills can I learn?

Students who successfully complete the ASET degree program should gain an understanding of the following areas:

  • Analysis of DC and AC circuits and electronics, including significant laboratory-based experience in each of these areas
  • Analysis and design of digital hardware, as well as computer architecture
  • Problem-solving and trouble-shooting techniques
  • Design of integrated-circuit (IC) based digital electronics
  • Use of modern, computer-based simulation tools
  • Advanced laboratory instrumentation
  • Communication skills essential to the workplace

What are some possible career opportunities?

Today, a good number of companies are involved in the entire spectrum of product and system analysis, testing and support. On the commercial side, some companies employ technicians and interns with at least an associate's degree to manufacture, analyze and test integrated circuit products ("chips"). Other companies may employ technicians or technologists for product support, with a heavy customer focus.

On the government contractor side, firms need technicians or interns to work on command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems that are the backbone of national defense.

Additional education and/or experience may be needed for some positions.
