This degree program is designed to prepare students for careers in the surgical field. Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners who provide surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective practice of surgical procedures. They also work alongside the anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, and registered nurse to deliver integral patient care before, during and after surgery.

Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance in surgery.

Classroom theory and laboratory hands-on training is supplemented with clinical and externship experiences to make for a comprehensive curriculum of study.
