Help non-native English Language Learners (ELL) succeed using instructional strategies and best practices designed to eliminate achievement gaps. Capella's master's specialization in English Language Learning and Teaching was developed around national curriculum standards for English Language Learners. The course work covers such topics as ELL assessment and instruction, applied linguistics, curriculum development, cultural competence, classroom management, instructional technologies, and techniques for working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, guidance staff, and families to improve student success. The capstone course includes a 45-hour practicum that allows you to put your ELL knowledge into practice in a K-12 setting, and develop a professional portfolio that demonstrates your new capabilities. People who choose this specialization are often licensed K-12 educators who want to improve their effectiveness in teaching English Language Learners, or provide leadership in developing English language learning curricula or resources at a school, district, or state level.

This specialization is not designed to satisfy licensure requirements for K-12 public school teachers or administrators.

Review of this specialization is pending in AL, KS, KY, ND, SC, TN, WA, and WI.
