The growing number of middle-aged and elderly people will continue to increase the demand for technicians and assistants in all health care settings. This is good news for those who are considering a rewarding career providing care and expertise to patients. The Pharmacy Technician program trains you in the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a pharmacy environment. Emphasizing a customer-centered approach, this program also helps develop the proper attitude and sense of responsibility necessary for success in the pharmacy field.
This program will prepare you to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in community pharmacies and hospitals. Typical duties of a Pharmacy Technician include filling prescriptions, counting pills, measuring medications, labeling products and providing patients with background information regarding their medications. Pharmacy Technicians also verify prescriptions, maintain patient records, organize insurance information and perform clerical and other duties as necessary. When you graduate from this program, you will be eligible to apply to sit the certification examination offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board of Alberta (PTCB-AB) and to register with the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians - Alberta (CAPT - AB).
