Medical Laboratory Assistant

This unique program combines both theoretical and practical classroom instruction with sessions in a well-equipped laboratory to help you get the skills for an exciting career in a medical lab. You'll learn about human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. In addition, you'll develop fundamental knowledge about hematology, cytology, histology, ECGs and the cardiovascular system. You'll also learn about lab microbiology, clinical chemistry, quality assurance and mathematical calculations. Lab safety techniques, aseptic methods as well as ethics and standards of practice are covered as well. Apply your skills in a clinical practicum at a fast-paced hospital department or lab environment.
Career opportunities exist in public health labs, physician's offices, clinics, hospitals and private diagnostic testing labs. You may also find employment in veterinary labs or various quality control laboratories.
