Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician The pharmacy technician program is designed to train students to function safely and effectively as integral members of the health care delivery team. The program combines theory and hands on applications required to perform the following tasks: demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and practices of pharmacy technology; recognize, spell, define, and use appropriate medical terminology, words and abbreviations as part of the study of pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and infection control; demonstrate an understanding of regulatory standards and law and ethics as each relates to the field of pharmacology; use appropriate pharmacy skills, including those required for administrative aspects of pharmacy technology and basic pharmacy applications; pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy operations and pharmacology; discuss and be able to demonstrate competency in performing pharmaceutical calculations, including conversions, working with pediatric dosages, parenteral iv dosages, admixtures and compounding dosages.

The outcome of the program is designed to provide the student with both the administrative and clinical skills for positions in retail, hospital, clinic and home iv facilities. Upon completion of the program, the pharmacy technician will be eligible to sit for the national exam sponsored by the national healthcare association. Graduates will be able to apply for but no be limited to jobs as pharmacy technician, pharmacy aide, and pharmacy services representative. Graduates of the program will receive a certificate.

Program Length
The daytime program consists of five 125-hour modules followed by a 160 hour externship experience (total of 30 weeks). The evening program consists of five 7-week modules followed by a 160 hour externship period (total 40 weeks).
