Associate - Fashion Design

In the world of fashion design, says the U.S. Department of Labor, employers seek individuals with a 2- or 4-year degree who are knowledgeable about textiles, fabrics, ornamentation, and fashion trends. Designers must have a strong sense of the esthetic: an eye for color and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation for beauty. Fashion designers also need excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Despite the advancement of computer-aided design, sketching ability remains an important advantage in fashion design. A good portfolio often is the deciding factor in getting a job.

The goal of American InterContinental University's Associate of Arts in Fashion Design degree program is to develop creative and innovative designers who are equipped with the techniques of fine craftsmanship and attuned to the needs of the consumer. In addition to a solid base in general education, the fashion program is designed to provide specialized training in sketching, garment construction, patternmaking and draping. It also emphasizes creativity and mastering traditional skills used in the fashion industry.
